Radio flash triggering system

Explore the most efficient way to manage both studio and outdoor lighting with precision and comfort. Over time, radio triggering systems have emerged as crucial tools for photographers working with flash lighting. This system offers an unparalleled advantage over traditional methods, providing unrestricted freedom in light placement. With it, you can set up your lights anywhere on the set without worrying about any of them failing to trigger the flash. It ensures a wide operational range and a robust, stable signal, achieved through high-frequency radio communication.

How does a flash trigger work?

Every radio triggering system is based on two fundamental components: a transmitter installed on the camera's hot shoe, and a receiver, which could either be a standalone device or an inbuilt feature of the flash. These accessories make illumination on the set a breeze, enabling wireless yet reliable flash triggering – this eliminates the need for cumbersome cables that could potentially disrupt the shoot.

Off-Camera Flash triggering

The flash triggering system extends beyond usage with just studio and outdoor lighting - when paired with a compatible camera flash, it can unlock a host of novel creative opportunities for photographers. Primarily, it enables the flash to be taken off the camera and set up externally, like on a light stand. This grants more artistic autonomy as, instead of the constant, uniform lighting from a fixed point, the light can be freely moved and repositioned, generating diverse effects with each subsequent shot. It's an incredibly practical solution, which also allows the use of studio light modifiers with the right mounting bracket. This is a superb option for individuals keen on mastering flash photography without breaking the bank on equipment.

Quadralite Navigator X radio triggering system

All currently available Quadralite flash units are fully compatible with the Navigator X system, allowing you to create a customized lighting system for your personal photography studio, be it at home or in a professional space. The Navigator X series triggers are designed to save you time and energy, ensuring seamless control of the flash and its settings, which is particularly advantageous when the lighting fixtures are positioned at elevated points in the setup. No more need to lower the lights on tripods each time you want to adjust the flash power – you can conveniently fine-tune them without having to move. Additionally, the system permits you to group or separate flashes for even more precise control over the lighting on your set.

Explore Quadralite Navigator trigger features

The triggers are fully compatible with both flash automation mode (TTL) and high-speed synchronization (HSS). You can freely adjust their communication channel and bandwidth among the 32 available options, which helps minimize interference. This feature is particularly beneficial on large shooting sets where radio communication devices are in operation. Moreover, the system is not exclusive to Quadralite lights - Navigator radio triggers are also compatible with original Canon, Nikon, or Sony speedlites, allowing you to integrate them into your lighting setup.

Which Quadralite Navigator trigger should I choose?

Quadralite's range of radio triggers includes three basic models:

  • Navigator X Basic
  • Navigator X Plus
  • Navigator X2

While these devices offer similar functionalities, they differ not only in their physical design but also in the features they provide. Both the Navigator X Plus and Navigator X2 enable convenient light setting and flash groups control, manual setting adjustments, and seamless integration with the camera’s automatic light metering (TTL). Both are also equipped with an autofocus assist feature, enhancing focus performance in low-light conditions. Additionally, they support HSS mode, ensuring seamless flash synchronization with extremely fast shutter speeds, down to 1/8000 sec.

Quadralite Navigator X2 or Navigator X Plus?

The Navigator X Plus stands out with its compact, slim design and built-in Bluetooth, which seamlessly integrates your smartphone into your lighting setup, enabling you to adjust light parameters using the Quadralite Photo App. When paired with the Navigator X receiver, it can also function as a camera trigger. On the other hand, the Navigator X2 represents the pinnacle of convenience and sophistication among remote controllers and triggers for the Navigator X system compatible flash units. This device boasts a large, easily readable screen capable of displaying parameters for up to 5 flash groups at once. It also offers a TCM function, enabling the transfer of TTL metering results to manual settings. For maximum convenience, the trigger includes an ALL function, which allows you to instantly adjust the brightness of all lamps involved in the session. However, it's crucial to select a transmitter that is compatible with your camera, as Quadralite Navigator X triggers are available for Canon, Nikon, Sony, MFT, Fuji, and Pentax cameras.
